#ShortReadsSaturdays (REVIEW) Heart of a Highlander by Collette Cameron @Collette_Author

Happy Saturday awesome readers. Today I’m reading another romance book with a Valentine’s theme. This one is a historical romance that brings some Valentine’s folklore into the mix. As a huge Karen Marie Moning fan, this book really hit the spot. I would definitely read more by Collette Cameron.

Without further ado, here is my review:

Heart of a Highlander

heart of a highlander by collette cameronAuthor: Collette Cameron
Category: Historical Romance
Suitable for: Teens+
My Rating: 4.5 Stars
Format Read for Review: Kindle
Pages: 92

Description from Amazon: When Giselle McTavish left France as the wife of a Scottish laird, she never expected to be widowed two years later and left with a toddler to raise. Filled with animosity toward Highlander, Hugh Ferguson—the man she holds responsible for her husband’s drowning, and a man she must see every day because he, too, lives at Craiglocky Keep—she’s determined her son, the next laird, will be raised in Scotland, nonetheless. Her struggles to overcome loneliness and homesickness are compounded as it becomes more difficult to fight the warm feelings Hugh now stirs in her.

Hugh has loved Giselle almost from the moment he laid eyes on the petite Frenchwoman. But as the wife, and then the widow of his dearest friend, he has refused to act on his feelings. He blames himself for his friend’s death. Guilt as well as the belief Giselle hates him, keeps Hugh’s lips firmly closed and his heart sealed. That all changes one providential Valentine’s Day when he risks everything by using Scottish folklore and legend to at last proclaims his love.

In Short: This is a fun quick read. If you like historical romances I would highly recommend it. This book is a great way to sample the author’s style.

Pros: I loved this story! The settings were descriptive and beautiful. The story was sad and then sweet and ended happily. I just wish it had been longer! In a short amount of time I really got into the characters. I liked how they all had unique voices. A lot of feels packed into very few pages. The Valentine’s Day folklore tid-bits were a fun addition to the story and made it a great February read for me!

Cons: My only issue with it is that it’s too short. It’s like a tease. I was all into it and boom “the end.” This took me by surprise even more because the progress on my kindle was only fifty-something percent, there are bonus samples at the end. The actual page count for the story is probably 40ish.

Parent’s Guide: Overall clean; there is some sexual innuendo and kissing. No sex.

I think this is the old cover. I actually like this cover more because I think it matches the snowy setting of the story better. I don’t know what it is about the new cover exactly, but I don’t like it.
