Description: Peter and his wife Hannah move back to his hometown to be near his parent’s as their health declines. They think they are moving into his childhood home but due to a mix up they find themselves moving into an old farmhouse that possesses dark secrets. The past and the present collide in deadly ways, how can they survive the nightmare room?
This was an awesome and bone chilling read. There was so much story in it and so much more to it than your typical haunted house horror. I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes horror. Especially if you like stories with ghosts or demons and don’t mind gore.
“The steps behind him groaned under the weight of something large, something heavy, but he didn’t look back.”
I so badly want to read the sequel! This book was amazing. It had a solid conclusion but still totally opened the door for book 2 so now I am dying to know what happens next. At first I thought this was just going to be like every other haunted house book or movie, which still would have been great but I was blown away by a killer twist in the story and I didn’t see the ending coming! This is hands down the scariest book I have read so far this year. It was so very well written, that I could see it all playing out in my head like a movie. I thought the characters were great. Each had their own voice and felt very real to me. The couple in this story wasn’t obnoxious or dysfunctional and was actually really sweet so I really worried about them in that creepy house. The plot was exciting, terrifying, and full of incredibly well thought out details. I devoured this book quickly!
“The dark figured peered at the family from the shadows, hidden in the corner.”
I have no notable issues with this book.
“Maybe I’ll whisper. Maybe I’ll tell!”
Contains blood, gore, violence, child abuse, harm to a bird, murder, brief mostly off-screen sexual content, and strong language.

New York audiobook narrator Peter Larson and his wife Hannah head to his hometown of Maple City to help Peter’s ailing father and to put a recent tragedy behind them. Though the small, Midwestern town seems the idyllic place to start afresh, Peter and Hannah will soon learn that evil currents flow beneath its surface.
They move into an old farmhouse on the outskirts of town—a house purchased by Peter’s father at auction and kept secret until now—and start to settle into their new life.
But as Peter sets up his recording studio in a small basement room, disturbing things begin to occur—mysterious voices haunt audio tracks, malevolent shadows creep about the house. And when an insidious presence emerges from the woodwork, Peter must face old demons in order to save his family and himself.
