Teaser Tuesday ~ Nov. 6, 2018 ~ Ice Rift by Ben Hammott @BenHammott #RRSciFiMonth #TeaserTuesday

Welcome to Teaser Tuesday, a Meme, created by The Purple Booker, that wants you to add books to your TBR, or just share what you are currently reading. It is very easy to play along:

– Grab your current read
– Open to a random page
– Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
– BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
– Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers! Everyone loves Teaser Tuesday.

Here’s my current read:

Ice Rift by Ben Hammott

I am 35% of the way into this book and really enjoying it so far! It’s an alien survival horror set in Antarctica. It reminds me a bit of the movie Alien but with way more alien species… all frightening in their own way.

Here are my teaser sentences (no spoilers):

“The passenger anxiously glanced out of a window, catching glimpses of the rift through gaps in the driving snow. He prayed the pilot knew what he was doing. ‘Will we make it?’ The pilot heard the fear in the man’s voice but felt no pity for him. ‘You’ll be the second person to find out.'”

“Dwarfed by the large corridor, abnormally oversized by human standards, eight pairs of eyes roamed over its bizarre architecture. Light beams revealed ribs of dark metal with bone-like forms set at regular intervals along its walls, which gave the appearance of looking through a strange creature’s ribcage.”

Amazon Blurb:

Humans have always looked to the stars for signs of Extraterrestrials.
They have been looking in the wrong place.
They are already here, entombed in a spaceship beneath Antarctic ice for thousands of years.
The ice is melting and they will soon be free.

A huge rift in the ice is discovered in Antarctica that stretches for 18 miles, (29 km) and 820 feet (250 meters) apart at its widest point.
When environmental scientists enter the ice rift to check out an anomaly on NASA’s satellite scans of the area, they discover something far more life threatening than the raging blizzard trapping them in the rift. They are unarmed and unprepared for their ensuing fight for survival.

Though Ice Rift — Salvage, is a continuation of the story from Ice Rift, it was brought about by readers feedback saying they would like to read a follow on book. Ice Rift can be read as a complete story. There is no cliffhanger or abrupt ending.

I really enjoy survival horrors like this and so far I’m appreciating how much character and world building there is. I’m getting attached to some of the character so I hope they make it in the end haha! I’m on the first in the series now. Glad it’s not a cliff hanger but I’ll definitely want to read the second one if this one continues to be enjoyable!

This sounds like a lot of fun. It’s the sort of thing I’d usually watch as a terrible, terrible movie rather than read, but you might tempt me to read one if you keep enthusing about them 🙂

So far it is a lot of fun. I’m hoping to have some time to finish it soon and get the review up with my final verdict! It does remind me a lot of movies like this but I’m getting so much more attached to the characters than I do in movies and that probably wont end well! Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting!

Great choice of teaser. This type of book is not my usual choice, but your teaser was surely tempting. (Apologies on getting around to reading this so late. I am busy as anything, but I always enjoy your posts!)
